If during operation oil leaks are noticed at the point of connection of the front wheel drive to the gearbox, replace the inner joint seal (see «Replacing gearbox seals»).
You will need: pliers, screwdriver, hammer, soft metal drift.
1. Remove the front wheel drive from the vehicle (see «Removal and installation of front wheel drives»).
2. Clamp the drive shaft in a vise with soft metal jaws.
3. Squeeze the bent antennae of the inner collar of the inner hinge cover with pliers...
4.... remove the collar lock...
5.... and remove the clamp.
6. Similarly remove an external collar of a cover.
7. Slide the dust cover over the shaft and turn it inside out.
8. Using a drift, knock the inner pivot off the shaft by applying force to the pivot cage.
9. Check up presence of greasing in a new hinge. It should contain 80 cm3 SHRUS-4 grease. If it seems to you that there is not enough lubrication, add it: extra lubrication will not hurt.
10. When installing the hinge, put it on the drive shaft with light hammer blows through a wooden spacer on the outer end of the shank along its axis until the hinge is fixed on the shaft. When installing the hinge, make sure that dirt does not get into it.
11. Install the mudguard on the pivot housing.
12. When installing the inner hinge boot, keep the dimension from the end of the shank to the small edge of the mudguard equal to 210 mm, and carefully tighten the clamps using special pliers.
13. To replace the outer hinge, remove its outer and inner clamps in the same way as it was done for the inner hinge.
14. Slide the dust cover over the shaft and turn it inside out.
15. Using a drift, knock the outer joint off the shaft, applying force to the joint cage.
16. Install the outer hinge in the same way as installing the inner hinge. The difference lies in the fact that 40 cm3 SHRUS-4 grease must be put into the hinge.
