Right inner CV joint of car with JH3 gearbox: 1 - retaining ring; 2 - hinge body; 3 - roller of a three-spike hub; 4 - anther clamps; 5 - anther
Do the following:
1. Remove the dirt deflector washer from the shank of the CV joint housing.
2. Remove the large boot clamp by bending its end with a screwdriver...
3.... and grabbing the clamp with pliers with thin jaws.
The clamp can be sawn with a hacksaw, as the old clamp cannot be reinstalled. When sawing the clamp, be careful not to damage the boot groove on the CV joint housing.
4. Similarly remove a small collar of fastening of anther.
5. Remove the hinge housing.
6. Remove the spacer spring from the housing...
7....together with thrust washer.
8. Remove the retaining ring of the CV joint hub by opening it with a retaining ring remover or round nose pliers.
9. Slide the hub with rollers along the splines of the shaft...
10.... and remove it from the shaft.
Mark the position of the hub relative to the shaft and install it according to the marks during assembly. If installing a new hub, orient it according to the marks on the old hub.
11. Remove the boot from the drive.
12. If the CV joint was disassembled only to replace the anther, remove the old grease from it by flushing the internal cavity with kerosene or gasoline
13.... and a hub. Dry parts with compressed air.
Note. If the anther was not torn, then it is not necessary to rinse - it is enough to carefully remove the old grease with a wiping material.
14. Install a new boot on the drive shaft. Make sure that the annular protrusion on the inner surface of the anther in the region of the small diameter belt falls into the groove on the shaft.
In order not to damage the hinge boot during assembly, wrap the splined part of the shaft with electrical tape.
To facilitate the installation of the boot - lubricate the shaft with a thin layer of grease designed to fill the hinge.
15. Press the hinge hub assembly with rollers onto the splines of the shaft (a suitable tool head can be used as a mandrel), matching the marks made during disassembly, and install the retaining ring (see point 8), making sure that the ring is completely inserted into the groove of the shaft.
16. Fill the boot with half of the required amount of MOBIL CVJ 825 BLACK STAR grease, the total amount of grease is (124±10 g). Put the rest of the grease evenly into the cavity of the hinge housing.
Do not reduce or increase the recommended amount of grease in the joint.
17. Install the spacer spring and thrust washer into the cavity of the hinge housing (see points 6 and 7).
18. Install the body on the rollers of the three-stud hub and put the boot on the body. Make sure that the annular protrusion on the inner surface of the anther in the region of the large diameter belt falls into the groove on the CV joint housing.
19. Remove excess air from the anther, for which lift the large edge of the anther and insert a thin, not sharp tool under it.
20. Without removing the tool from under the edge of the anther, move the parts of the CV joint so that a distance of 190 mm is established between the ends of the small belt of the anther and the shank of the CV joint housing.
If you do not remove excess air from under the anther and do not set the required hinge length before fixing the anther with clamps, the anther may be damaged during operation.
21. Without changing the position of the parts of the hinge, remove the tool from under the edge of the boot and secure the boot with clamps.
The criterion for the correct crimping of the ear clamp is gap A. It should be 2.4-2.8 mm. If the gap is larger «squeeze» clamp to normal; if less, replace clamp.
22. Install a dirt washer on the shank of the pivot housing.
