Removal



Note: Replacing the power steering pump on 8-valve and 16-valve engines is performed similarly, with minor differences.


Place the vehicle on a two-post lift, apply the parking brake and turn off the ignition.

Remove the right front wheel.

Remove the right side and lower mudguards from the front fender.

Remove the engine crankcase guard.

Remove the accessory drive belt.

Install clamps on the low and high pressure lines going to the power steering pump (clamp Ms. 583 - 2 pcs.).

For vehicles with K7M engine equipped with air conditioning system.

Loosen bolt 8, Figure 14-1, securing the high-pressure pipeline to bracket 6 of the mounted units (replacement head 10, ratchet wrench).

For vehicles with K7M engine not equipped with air conditioning system.

Remove the front bumper.

For vehicles with K4M engine equipped with air conditioning system.

Unscrew the cap of the power steering pump reservoir and pump out the working fluid (brush pump, process tank).

Remove the fuel rail protection.

Loosen the bolt securing the high pressure line to the cylinder block (replaceable head 13, ratchet wrench).

For vehicles with K4M engine not equipped with air conditioning system.

Disconnect the ground wire terminal from the battery.

Unscrew the two fuel rail protection nuts (the nuts are located deep in the wells and are not visible in the photo).

General procedure for removing the power steering pump.

Caution: When removing the power steering pump, take precautions to protect the generator from oil spillage.

Loosen clamp 2 and disconnect low pressure line 1 from power steering pump (pliers for elastic clamps Mot. 1202-02).

Install technological plugs in the holes of the power steering pump and on the pipes to prevent fluid leakage. (technological plugs).

Installation



Install the power steering pump onto the bracket and secure it with bolts. Do not tighten the bolts (replaceable head 13, replaceable nozzle Torx T40, extension, ratchet wrench).



Power Steering Pump Bolt Tightening Diagram

Bolt tightening diagram:
  • tighten bolts 5 of the hydraulic pump mounting on the pump drive pulley side;
  • tighten the bolts 9 securing the hydraulic pump on the opposite side.

Bolt tightening torques:
  • for cars with K7M engine - 21 Nm (2.1 kgf·m) (replaceable head 10, replaceable nozzle Torx T40, extension, ratchet wrench, torque wrench);
  • for cars with K4M engine - 25 Nm (2.5 kgf·m) (replaceable head 10, replaceable nozzle Torx T40, extension, ratchet wrench, torque wrench);

Remove the plugs from the low and high pressure lines and the power steering pump openings.

Attention: Before installing pipelines, be sure to replace the sealing rings on the pipeline fittings.

Install a new sealing ring and connect the high pressure line fitting to the pump. Tightening torque of the nipple 21 N·m (2.1 kgf·m) (spanner 17, replaceable insert 17 type 58 21 10 17 f. "Stahlwille", torque wrench type 50 18 00 04 f. "Stahlwille").

Connect the low pressure pipe to the pump and secure with a clamp (pliers for elastic clamps Mot. 1202-02).

Remove the clamps from the low and high pressure pipes.

Install the accessory drive belt.

For vehicles with K7M engine equipped with air conditioning system.

Tighten bolt 8 securing the high-pressure pipeline to bracket 6 of the mounted units. Bolt tightening torque 21 Nm (2.1 kgf·m) (replacement head 10, ratchet wrench, torque wrench).

For vehicles with K7M engine not equipped with air conditioning system.

Install the front bumper.

For vehicles with K4M engine equipped with air conditioning system.



Install the bolt into the eye of the high pressure line mounting bracket and secure the line by screwing the bolt into the corresponding hole on the cylinder block. Bolt tightening torque 21 Nm (2.1 kgf·m) (replaceable head 13, ratchet wrench, torque wrench).

Install fuel rail protection.

For vehicles with K4M engine not equipped with air conditioning system.

Install the bolt into the eye of the high pressure line mounting bracket and secure the line to the cylinder block. Bolt tightening torque 21 Nm (2.1 kgf·m) (replaceable head 13, ratchet wrench, torque wrench).

Install fuel rail protection.

Connect the ground wire terminal to the battery.

General procedure for installing a power steering pump.

Install the right side and lower front fender mudguards.

Install the right front wheel.

Install the engine crankcase guard.

Bring the oil level in the power steering reservoir up to normal (power Steering Oil Mobil ATF 52475).

Bleed the power steering system.
