Attention. To prevent damage to the steering gear, it is imperative to use tool Dir when removing the inner tie rod joints. 1306-01. The device is installed on the left side of the steering gear and fixes the angular position of the rack relative to the steering gear housing. Before installing the tool on the steering mechanism, first remove the left protective cover.
Removing
Place the vehicle on a two-post lift, apply the parking brake and turn off the ignition.
Remove front wheel.
Remove the outer tie rod end.
Remove the protective cover of the inner joint of the steering rod.
Unlock steering wheel.
Install tool 3, Figure 10-1, to fix steering rack 2 (fixture Dir. 1306-01).
Unscrew the inner hinge from the end of the steering rack and remove it complete with the steering rod (interchangeable head 21, knob, fixture Dir. 1305-010).

Installation
Apply a high-strength locking compound to the threaded surface of the inner joint (high strength locking compound, part number 77 11 230 112).
Screw the inner joint assembly with the steering rod into the threaded hole of the steering rack. Hinge tightening torque 80 Nm (8.0 kgf·m) (interchangeable head 21, knob, torque wrench, fixture Dir. 1305-010).
Remove tool Dir. 1306-01 for fixing the steering rack.
Apply silicone grease to the steering rack and inner tie rod joint (silicone grease, part number 77 11 236 168).
Install the protective cover of the inner joint of the steering rod.
Install the outer tie rod end.
Install the front wheel.
Check and, if necessary, adjust the wheel alignment.
