We check the oil level in the gearbox during vehicle maintenance, as well as before each trip if there is an oil leak from the gearbox.

To complete the work you will need:
  • inspection ditch or overpass;
  • wide container with a capacity of at least 4 liters;
  • funnel with a hose.

Examination

We carry out the check with the engine not running.

1. Prepare the car for work ("Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").

2. Remove the air filter housing ("Air filter - removal and installation").

(Original publication on the website Ladaman.ru)

3. Remove the oil level indicator from the hole in the gearbox housing.

4. Wipe the oil off the dipstick and reinstall it until it stops, then remove it. The oil level in the gearbox should be between the MIN and MAX marks on the indicator rod, otherwise we bring the level up to the norm (see below).

5. Install the level indicator and air filter in place.

Replacement

We change the oil in the gearbox after 75,000 km of mileage or after five years of operation, whichever comes first. The type of oil used is indicated in the section "Reference data".

Advice: It is better to change the oil immediately after the trip, while it is hot, so the oil drains faster and more completely along with suspended wear particles.

Warning! The temperature of the heated oil can reach 90°C, be careful.

1. Prepare the car for work ("Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").

2. Place a container under the gearbox housing drain hole.

3. Using a 17 mm open-end wrench, unscrew the drain plug.

4. Drain the oil.

4. Drain the oil.

5. After waiting for the oil to completely drain from the gearbox, screw the plug back into place.

Tip: If the oil drained from the gearbox is dark in color and contains visible metal particles, the gearbox should be flushed. To do this, pour 1-1.5 liters of special flushing oil into the gearbox crankcase. With one of the drive wheels off the ground, start the engine and engage first gear. After 5-7 minutes, turn off the engine, drain the flushing oil and fill with clean transmission oil.

6. Remove the oil level indicator (see "Gearbox - checking the oil level and changing it").

7. Wipe the indicator, removing oil from it.

8. Insert the lower end of the hose into the hole in the oil level indicator.

8. Insert the lower end of the hose into the hole in the oil level indicator.

9. Insert a funnel into the upper end of the hose.

10. Pour 3.1 liters of transmission oil into the gearbox through a funnel. We control the oil level in the gearbox using the indicator.

11. After finishing the work, remove any oil leaks with a rag and put the oil level indicator back in place.
