Possible malfunctions

If the following faults occur, it is necessary to check the hydraulic clutch system for fluid leaks and bleed air from the system:
  • appearance of free play of the clutch pedal;
  • the clutch pedal is in the middle or pressed position;
  • difficulty shifting gears.

Possible consequences of contamination entering the hydraulic clutch system

The hydraulic clutch drive is very sensitive to contamination. If contaminants enter the system, they may result in the following consequences:
  • inability to shift gears;
  • damage or complete failure of the clutch hydraulic drive;
  • leaks from the hydraulic clutch drive.

Equipment for bleeding air from the hydraulic clutch drive:
  • installation for removing air from the hydraulic drive system through the brake fluid reservoir type OMA 883 f. "OMA" (Italy);
  • syringe to remove air through the nipple located on the clutch slave cylinder.

Procedure for removing air using a hydraulic system air removal unit

Place the vehicle on the work post, apply the parking brake and turn off the ignition.

Depending on the vehicle configuration, remove the air supply pipe 1, Figure 3-2, or the resonator 4, Figure 3-21, intake, by unscrewing the two mounting bolts 1 (replacement head 10, ratchet).

Secure the clutch pedal in the upper position using a strap attached to the steering wheel to ensure the integrity of the hydraulic drive during the bleeding operation.

Unscrew the hydraulic brake reservoir cap and attach in its place a unit for removing air from the hydraulic drive system (unit for removing air from the hydraulic drive system type OMA 883 f. "OMA", Italy).

Remove the protective cap from the air bleed nipple on the clutch slave cylinder.

Attach a transparent tube to the air bleed nipple, lowering the other end into a process container located above the air bleed nipple (transparent technological tube, technological capacity).

For vehicles with JH3 gearbox and H4M engine

Raise the clamps 3 and 4, Figure 11-2, up until the clamps' antennae rest against the ribs "A" and "B", respectively, and pull out the hydraulic drive tube 5 by one click to open the air bleed hole.

For vehicles with JR5 gearbox and 21129 engine

Press the lock 3, Figure 11-3, and pull out the hydraulic tube 6 one click to open the air bleed hole.

For all cars

Open the system between the air bleeder and the brake fluid reservoir.

Wait until the brake fluid starts to flow out without bubbles.

Release the pressure in the clutch hydraulic drive by turning off the air bleeder.

For vehicles with JH3 gearbox and H4M engine

Lower the clamps 3 and 4, Figure 11-2, down to the stop and press the nipple of the clutch hydraulic drive tube into the working cylinder until the clamp clicks.

For vehicles with JR5 gearbox and 21129 engine

Press the nipple of the clutch hydraulic tube into the working cylinder until the lock clicks.

For all cars

Disconnect the transparent tube from the air bleed nipple and install the protective cap on the nipple.

Disconnect the air bleeder.

Add brake fluid to the master cylinder reservoir and bring its level up to normal. The brake fluid level should be between the "MAX" and "MIN" marks on the master cylinder reservoir (brake fluid according to the current "Codifier of main and auxiliary materials used in maintenance and repair of LADA vehicles" K 3100.25100.00018).

Press the clutch pedal quickly twenty times.

Check the functionality of the clutch. If necessary, repeat the air removal operation.

Depending on the vehicle configuration, install the air supply pipe 1, Figure 3-2, or the air intake resonator 4, Figure 3-21, by tightening the two mounting bolts 1. Tightening torque of bolts 7...9 Nm (0.7...0.9 kgf·m) (replaceable head 10, ratchet, torque wrench).

Present the vehicle to the Quality Control Department. The Quality Control Department will check the vehicle for compliance with the requirements of TU 017200-254-00232934, paragraphs 1.19.15, 1.19.16.

Procedure for removing air using a syringe

Place the vehicle on the work post, apply the parking brake and turn off the ignition.

Depending on the vehicle configuration, remove the air supply pipe 1, Figure 3-2, or the resonator 4, Figure 3-21, intake, by unscrewing the two mounting bolts 1 (replacement head 10, ratchet).

Secure the clutch pedal in the upper position using a strap attached to the steering wheel to ensure the integrity of the hydraulic drive during the bleeding operation.

Remove the protective cap from the air bleed nipple on the clutch slave cylinder.

Attach a transparent tube to the air bleed nipple so that it is at the same height as the tank (technological tube).

Unscrew the hydraulic brake reservoir cap and pour brake fluid into the reservoir so that it flows out of the tube for bleeding the hydraulic clutch drive (brake fluid according to the current "Codifier of the main and auxiliary materials used in the maintenance and repair of LADA vehicles" K 3100.25100.00018).

Attach a new syringe for bleeding the hydraulic clutch drive system, filled with 60 ml of brake fluid, to the end of the transparent tube (technological syringe, brake fluid according to the current "Codifier of the main and auxiliary materials used in the maintenance and repair of LADA vehicles" K 3100.25100.00018).

Slowly and completely force the brake fluid out of the syringe into the clutch hydraulic system, making sure that no air from the top of the syringe enters the system.

Bring the brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir to normal.
