Recommendation. If, when the engine is running, a strong rotating bearing noise is heard in the area under the front timing belt covers («Checking the technical condition of the engine»), check the condition of the tensioner and replace if necessary. This can be done without removing the belt. Also, the roller should be replaced when the timing belt is replaced routinely («Timing belt - replacement»).
Timing drive with tension roller
1. Remove the front timing belt cover («Timing Belt - Checking Condition»).
Recommendation. When replacing the tensioner pulley without removing the toothed belt, there is a risk of the belt jumping over the pulley teeth, which will lead to a shift in the valve timing. Therefore, before loosening the belt tension, align the mark on the camshaft pulley with the protrusion of the rear belt cover («Timing belt - replacement»). After installing the roller, the label should not move.
2. Loosen the tightening nut of the tension roller («Timing Belt - Checking Condition») and turn it off completely.
3. Remove the roller from the stud, keeping the belt taut.
4. We install a new roller on the stud and fix it with a nut and washer, preventing the belt tension from loosening.
5. Adjust the tension of the timing belt («Timing Belt - Checking Condition»).
6. Install the front timing belt cover.
Timing drive with automatic tensioner
1. We prepare the car for work («Preparing the car for maintenance and repair»).
2. Remove the upper front timing belt cover («Timing Belt - Checking Condition»).
Comment. After robbing the timing belt tension, there is a risk of the belt jumping over the pulley teeth, which will lead to a shift in the valve timing. Therefore, before loosening the belt tension by turning the crankshaft, align the mark on the distribution hall pulley with the protrusion of the rear belt cover. After installing the roller, the marks should not move.
3. With a 15 mm wrench, unscrewing the automatic tensioner mounting bolt by half a turn, we loosen the tension of the timing belt.
4. We unscrew the tensioner fastening bolt and remove it together with the bolt.
Installation
1. Install the automatic tensioner without tightening the fastening bolt.
2. We put the timing belt on the tensioner roller, make sure that the marks match and adjust the tension («Timing belt - replacement»).
3. Install the removed parts in the reverse order of removal.
