Note: Observing safety precautions, perform work on replacing the sensor on a cold engine or, to avoid burning your hands, use cloth gloves and long-sleeved clothing.
1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Partially drain the coolant from the radiator (see "Replacing the coolant").
3. For ease of operation, remove the air filter (see "Removing and installing the air filter").

4. Squeeze the shoe…

5. …and disconnect it with the wire from the sensor output (for clarity, the ECM coolant temperature sensor and water pipe have been removed).

6. Loosen the sensor tightening…

7. …and unscrew it from the water channel of the cylinder block.

Note: This is what the coolant temperature gauge sensor looks like. Please pay attention to the markings on the sensor body to purchase a sensor with the same parameters.

8. To check, connect the tester in ohmmeter mode to the terminal and the sensor body. The resistance of the sensor at room temperature should be 1.5–1.7 kOhm.

9. To measure the resistance at the sensor terminals at different temperature conditions, lower the sensor into hot water and monitor the change in its resistance as the water cools: it should increase. If the sensor does not respond to temperature changes, it must be replaced.
10. Install the new sensor in the reverse order of removal.
