1. Remove the telescopic pole from the vehicle (see «Removal and installation of a telescopic rack»).
2. Clamp the telescopic pole in a vise, compress the spring with special ties..
3.... and unscrew the shock absorber rod nut with a wrench «at 22», while holding the shock absorber rod from turning with a hex wrench «for 6».
4. Remove the limit washer of the travel of the top support of the rack.
5. Remove the top support of a rack in gathering with the bearing …
6.... and the compression stroke limiter of the upper strut support..
7.... then remove the spring from the shock absorber.
8. Remove the compression stroke buffer and protective cover from the shock absorber rod.
9. Remove the bearing from the upper support of the rack..
10.... top cup and spring insulating gasket..
11. …and then separate them.
Note. On Lada Priora cars, a non-separable shock absorber strut is used. A broken rack needs to be replaced.
12. Inspect the parts of the telescopic pole.
13. Replace damaged compression stroke buffer and protective cover.
14. Replace the bearing if it moves axially in the support housing or sticks when turning..
15.... if signs of rubber aging are found, replace the upper support.
Note. Purchase parts with markings..
...on a telescopic pole..
...on a support bearing..
...and on the top support.
16. Replace the spring if cracks are found on it or its coils are deformed. To upset the spring, squeeze it three times until the coils touch. Then apply a load of 3356 N to the spring (342 kgf). Compress the spring along the axis of the spring; the support surfaces must match the surfaces of the support cups on the telescopic pole. If the length of the spring with brown markings (class A) less than 230 mm, replace it with a blue marked spring (class B).
Note. Install springs of the same group on the left and right side of the vehicle. Change springs in pairs.
17. Reassemble the telescopic pole in the reverse order of disassembly. At the same time, put the protective cover on the annular groove of the compression stroke buffer. Install the spring so that its ends rest against the protrusions of the lower and upper cups.
18. Finally tighten the top shock absorber rod nut with the vehicle on the ground.
