It is recommended to check and adjust the angles of the front wheels in specialized technical centers that have the appropriate equipment.
Comment. The angles of installation of the front wheels are indicated in the section «Reference data».
The camber angle of the front wheels is the angle of inclination of the plane of rotation of the wheel relative to the vertical. Uneven camber angles of the front wheels cause the vehicle to pull to the side during straight driving. Large positive camber (when the top of the wheel sticks out) leads to accelerated wear of the outer part of the tread of the tire, and a large negative camber - to the inner part of the tread («Checking the technical condition of wheels, tires and hubs»). The camber angle of the front wheel is adjusted by the upper bolt of the steering knuckle to the rack. The bolt has an eccentric head and a special washer.
The convergence of the front wheels is the angle between the plane of rotation of the wheel and the longitudinal plane of symmetry of the car in the position of rectilinear movement. Toe-in is defined as the difference in distance between the front wheel rims in millimeters (B-A, see pic). Violation of the convergence of the front wheels worsens the handling and directional stability of the car and leads to intensive tire wear.
The convergence of the front wheels is raided by changing the length of the steering rods, by rotating the threaded inserts.
Pitch is the angle between the front wheel's axis of rotation and the vertical in a plane parallel to the vehicle's centerline. Violation of the correct angle of inclination of the axis of rotation of the front wheels causes a deterioration in the controllability of the car. At a large angle of longitudinal inclination, the resistance to rotation of the steering wheel increases, and at a small angle, the stabilization of the front wheels in the direction of movement straight ahead worsens.
The inclination of the axis of rotation of the wheel is regulated by changing the number of washers installed at the ends of the longitudinal extension of the front suspension.
