Figure 9.9. Installing the towing hitch
a – distance from the rear wheel axis to the center of the ball joint along the axis 807-820 mm. Distance from the center of the ball joint to ground level 350-420 mm.
Installation of certified towing devices is provided by official LADA dealers.
There are holes on the bottom of the rear side members for attaching the towbar. Also, welded nuts for fastening the crash boxes of the rear bumper beam can be used as additional attachment points, depending on the design of the towing hitch.
Warning!
- Always remove the tow ball joint when not towing a trailer.
- Always comply with local laws regarding the installation of a towing hitch and the operation of a vehicle with a trailer.
Operating a vehicle with a trailer
It is prohibited to exceed the permissible gross weight of the road train indicated on the identification plates of the vehicle and trailer (taking into account the degree of vehicle loading).
The total weight of the vehicle, the load in it and the load transferred by the trailer to the towing hitch must not exceed the technically permissible maximum weight of the vehicle indicated on the identification plate (see section "Technical characteristics of the car").
To ensure a balanced load on the road train, the trailer should be loaded in an attempt to achieve the maximum permissible load (50 kg) on the ball joint of the towing hitch.
For better stability of the road train, it is preferable for the vehicle to be fully loaded.
Distribute and secure the load in the trailer so that heavy objects are located as close to the trailer axle as possible.
With every 1000 m increase in altitude above sea level, it is necessary to reduce the maximum mass of the road train by 10%, which is associated with a decrease in engine power and a decrease in the efficiency of the braking system.
Adjust tire pressure and headlight aim if necessary.
If rear visibility is impaired when a trailer is attached, use assistants when maneuvering.
Please note that the parking assist system and rear view camera may not function properly when a trailer is attached.
The speed of a road train with a trailer must not exceed the limits established by local legislation.
When driving, do not try to eliminate trailer sway by accelerating sharply, always reduce speed.
Anticipate the road conditions, accelerate and brake smoothly to avoid jerking and damage to vehicle and trailer components.
