What kind of battery is in Lada Largus?

What kind of battery is in Lada Largus?

The LADA Largus car is equipped with a battery with reverse polarity (the negative terminal faces the left side of the car, and both terminals are located closer to the windshield, see photo below). The nominal capacity at 20-hour discharge mode is 70 Ah.

The battery is not serviced and has no plugs. The battery charge level can be determined by the color of the indicator built into the battery cover: - green means the battery is charged; - dark color - partially discharged; – a transparent or light yellow color indicates that the electrolyte level has dropped beyond the permissible level.

Precautionary measures

Sulfuric acid solution is a very aggressive and toxic substance that corrodes most metals, so the following precautions must be taken when servicing the battery:
  • use safety glasses,
  • wear acid-resistant gloves and acid-resistant protective clothing.

To avoid damage or explosion of the battery, ensure that there are no heat or sparking sources near the battery during charging.

Loose tightening of the battery terminals may result in heating of the contacts, failure to start the engine or charge the battery, sparks or explosion of the battery.

Attention: To avoid sparking when disconnecting the battery terminals, make sure that all power consumers are switched off.

At charging the battery indoors, before disconnecting or connecting the battery, turn off the charger.

Do not place metal objects on the battery that may cause a short circuit between the terminals.

Caution: The reliability of the visual indicator is not guaranteed in after-sales service, so do not use the visual indicator as a means of monitoring the battery condition.

Removal

Place the vehicle in the work area, apply the parking brake, turn off the ignition, and raise the hood.

Caution: Before disconnecting the battery, you must:
  • wait until the electric fan of the engine cooling system stops;
  • wait until the procedure for saving data in the ECU is complete (1 min).

Remove the cover from the positive terminal.

Loosen the tightening of nut 2, Figure 2-1, of the negative battery cable terminal (10 mm spanner).

Disconnect the negative cable terminal from the battery.

Loosen the tightening of nut 1 of the positive battery cable terminal (10 mm spanner).

Disconnect the positive cable terminal from the battery.

Loosen bolt 5 securing the battery bar (replacement head 13, ratchet, extension).

Remove the 4 mounting strip.

Remove the battery.

Installation

Clean the battery terminals and wire terminals and apply a thin layer of grease to them; if there is a white coating on the terminals, remove it with sandpaper (vaseline technical VTV-1 in an aerosol can, sandpaper with a grain size of no more than P 220 or felt with abrasive paste PMA-2).

Install the battery in the reverse order of removal.

In this case, the tightening moments are:
  • battery mounting plate mounting bolt - 12 Nm (1.2 kgf·m);
  • positive wire terminal mounting bolt - 6 Nm (0.6 kgf·m);
  • negative wire terminal fastening nut - 6 Nm (0.6 kgf·m).

Make sure that the battery is securely fastened to the platform.

Install the cover on the positive terminal.
